Technology Versus COVID-19

We live in a world of technology. Every day, something new comes out and changes the technology game. Our computers have come a long way since the abacus, and we have made significant strides towards the future.

Everything can be controlled by our computers nowadays. There are whole houses that are operated through a tablet. You need to turn the lights off downstairs, but you are too lazy to go down and switch it off yourself? Whip the tablet out and press the buttons and poof, lights off. Do you need to lower the volume of your stereo? Use the tablet. Fireplace? Tablet. Blinds? Tablet. Do everything on your tablet, and you are good to go.

Our phones can double as a listening device, too, if you want. On IOS phones, all you have to do is wear your AirPods, connect them to your phone and turn on live listening in your settings and poof, you hear everything that everyone is saying without being in the room.

A lot has changed in terms of computers and software. All this change is great and very helpful, but it does not come without its cons. With the latest developments, everything can be used to spy on you and stalk you. Your phone might be listening to you right now, or maybe your laptop camera is recording you. Such positive developments come with such grave flaws in the system.

Much like with COVID-19, although it is a very negative development for the world, it has brought up so much more than just a pandemic. It has shown the people the flaws in their governments and their health care systems. Now, people see that all the positive things that they were shown might just simply be a smokescreen, a façade. Does it not make you wonder how easy it is for people to spy on you through your computers and phones, but it is not easy for the people to come together and decide on who should run their country?

COVID-19 has exposed the truth. A negative meets a negative, and hopefully, after all this, we can get a positive result. Right now, positive results and changes are not attainable just yet because everyone is still neck-deep in their fake news and their opinions that they forget the bigger picture.

As we move forward with technology and its advancements, we should also focus on making strides in health and wellness both physically and mentally. It is time to take a stand and make a change. It is not enough just to post a quick rant on our social media for people to see. This is not the time to show off how “woke” we are, but this is the time to do something for our community, especially for our frontliners.

If we put our focus on computer and software, then maybe we should use our computer skills and software to good use. Maybe we can use our computers to help spread awareness on COVID-19 so we can inform and educate rather than spread fake and malicious information. Maybe we could even start making educational memes so that the younger generation can share that instead of dark-humored memes.

Let the positive advancements in our technology guide us through this dark time, and instead of focusing on the negatives, maybe it is time to let the youth take charge. After all, the future is in their hands. With so many developments, they understand it more than any of the older generations. Listen to the youth, and maybe we might find a cure for COVID-19.
